My values

I aim to provide a high quality service for children and young people. To do so, I am straightforward, skilled, and responsive. I try to connect families with the right support and to guide them through a difficult time in their journey.

The core values that I bring to my work are quality, integrity and kindness. I am a parent and try to offer a service that I myself would want to access if my children were struggling with their mental health or issues around neurodiversity.

About me

My name is Dr Lindsay Banham and I’m a Consultant in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. I offer high quality outpatient psychiatric assessment and treatment to children and young people up to the age of 18.

Families often look for a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at a difficult time in their lives. I see it as my role to walk alongside families and help them find their way through. I may help by assessing and treating difficulties, often using a combination of lifestyle and behavioural advice and medication. I may also help by sign-posting or referring to other services that can work alongside or instead of psychiatric care. I will try to help for as short or long a time as families need.

My experience

After graduating from the University of Leeds Medical School in 2006 with an honours degree and a BSc in International Health, I worked as Academic Foundation Programme doctor in Yorkshire and later in a psychiatric unit in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand. I returned to the UK to take up a position as an Academic Clinical Fellow at Kings College London, completing my core psychiatry clinical jobs and membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists on the prestigious South London and the Maudsley clinical rotation. I went on to complete my specialist training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry on the Royal London Hospital/Great Ormond Street Hospital rotation, taking a sabbatical to complete a Fellowship in Medical Education and later a part-time MSc in Medical Education alongside clinical work. In recent years I have worked part-time to balance the needs of my family with my career.

Since becoming a Consultant in 2019, I have worked in two NHS community Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and a busy crisis team within an acute hospital. I also recently held an Honorary Consultant post at Great Ormond Street Hospital within a National Specialist NHS service. I have enjoyed assessing and treating children and young people with a wide range of backgrounds and presenting difficulties. I am experienced in looking after children and young people who are struggling with trauma, anxiety, depression, OCD, self-harm, behavioural challenges and co-existing physical and mental health difficulties. I work with children and young people with neurodevelopmental differences (such as ASD and ADHD) alongside mental health challenges. as well as. I am now excited to be offering private assessment and treatment via Centennial Medical Centre.
